What started out a chore, soon became an addiction. Now, the first thing I do whenever I which on my computer? Launch TweetDeck. Twitter started growing on me. Why? Because twitter gives you knowledge. Twitter is centered around the sharing of information. Constant updates, latest news, all with just the click of a mouse. Twitter has become my link to the world and beyond.

However, the downside of it all, is that with the constant stream of  information,  you spend more time trying to filter the information. You can control who you wish to follow, which in turn determines the type of information you will receive. But sadly, you can’t control the frequency of which the information is shared.

To sum it up, I’ll just like to share a bit of what I have learnt from Twitter:

1. Twitter is a pool of information.

2. Follow Guy Kawasaki, and he will follow you back out of courtesy.

3. Ask Guy Kawasaki a stupid question, and he will make you look stupid. I’m sure everyone would agree that you deserved it.

4. Tweet, and you shall receive. In the form of followers of course.

5. Stop tweeting, and you shall un-receive. In the sense that your followers might unfollow you.

6. Tweet useful information. Unless you’re famous, no one really cares about what you are doing or what goes on in your life.

7. It’s all about the concept. Take Common Squirrel for example, all it tweets is “Run run, jump jump” but yet it has 10 thousand followers.

Social networking sites like Twitter make up the future. For those of you who haven’t hopped on the bandwagon, please do so before you lose the chance of catching up.

Since music went digital, life became simpler. Gone were the days when you had to carry a bulky Disc-man and a case full of CDs out of the house. Now, one small device controls how you listen to music. You can listen to different artists without having to change the disc, create your own playlist and be your own DJ. But of course the pros are always accompanied by the cons. To be honest, it’s mainly one con, one really major con. Piracy is wide spread. As consumers, it’s good for us that we get free music. But what about the musicians?

Musicians don’t exactly earn from the sale of their CDs. They do get a small percentage out of it, but the pot of gold lies in the concerts they hold. So if the artistes don’t get the brunt of it, then who does?

It’s the old fat man sitting behind the desk in the office of the record label he owns. Put simply, it’s the record labels. Record labels are bleeding money due to the decrease in CD sales, and increase in digital music sales.  And the plaster which would stop the bleeding comes in the form of going digital.

With the digital revolution in full swing, it’s only a matter of time when record labels start releasing online albums rather than physical albums. They have to do something about the bleeding, and they have to do it quick.

Are we in control of technology, or is technology in control of us? We are enslaved to technology, aren’t we? How many of us can say “I don’t need my mobile phone” or “I don’t rely on the internet”? Not in this era. I find it frightening how we humans were the ones who created technology, and yet we’re also the ones who are hooked onto it.

Maybe creators of films such as The Matrix and Minority Report are those who had foresight. Perhaps one day technology will turn against us. Are we able to handle the rate at which technology is advancing?
